The Director of Operations reports to the Vice President of Power & Utilities and will have responsibility for evaluating the day-to-day operational performance and recommending actions to the Vice President for improved performance for the Power & Utilities Sector. Improvement of operational processes, and providing functional guidance to operational and business development managers in the Power & Utilities Service Line, will be a part of the daily responsibilities. This position thrives in an ever-changing work environment where the culture of the organization is constantly assessed to reflect a business unit using best practices to achieve efficient project management. This is accomplished through the use of financial and project management tools which monitor individual, project and group performance. This position is also charged with insuring a client focused sales driven organization that utilizes both technical experts and business development professionals in the sales process. * Key Responsibilities Planning: * Prepare annual business plan under direction of management based upon annual goals and annual Commercial Action Plan (CAP). * Assist in the development of KPI’s for ongoing monitoring of performance and achievement of financial performance consistent with annual business plan. * Identify and implement immediate and long-term strategies for growth, improved efficiency, and reduced costs. * Take leadership role in improving the knowledge and understanding of business practices (financial performance) to key managers. Financial: * Monitor KPI’s and recommend improvement initiatives to management. * Monitor A/R’s and take action to reduce A/R’s to meet established goals. * Analyze the indirect costs (overhead) by office to determine if they are reasonable, proper and controllable. Provide recommendations to reduce costs where appropriate. * Monitor CAPEX expenditures based upon approved budget. * Implement and administer BV corporate financial policies, procedures and initiatives. * Validate 3-month and annual forecasts. Operational: * Assist in identifying, recruiting, and developing personnel, including back-office. * Monitor KPI’s and provide analysis and recommendations. * Monitor status of action items as outlined in Commercial Action Plans and provide recommendations for completion of outstanding items. * Review project level labor and expense costs, be able to identify projects where financial performance is below expectation and develop recommendations working with Project Managers and Vice President to bring financial performance in-line. Monitor implementation activities identified. * Monitor report on new projects wins (working with Director of Marketing) and backlog on a monthly basis. * Provide consistent proposal costing and contract implementation. * Implement and administer BV corporate financial, Human Resources, and Risk Management policies, procedures and initiatives. Monitor adherence to I&F NA procedures and policies and advise of any areas where change is needed. * Assist in the integration of newly acquired firms, specifically facilitating the smooth transition to BV’s operational practices. Business Development: * Assist the business development process by working with the operating teams in the proposal and interview processes including evaluating and screening RFP/RFQ’s and leads. * Generate sales revenue by focusing on federal, state, city and county municipalities, Independent Power Producers and Utility District projects. * Develop other potential revenue sources in renewable energy such as wind power, hydroelectric power, nuclear power, geothermal power, high and intermediate voltage electrical transmission, water treatment, wastewater treatment projects. COGEN less than 50 megawatts. * Solidify, strengthen, and proactively expand Bureau Veritas’ relationships with currently unmanaged national accounts or existing clients with the potential for national or regional MSA’s, including those client types not within designated industry sectors. * Establish and maintain effective national client profiling activities to identify further opportunities for service expansion and work with the internal BD staff & maximize the revenue generating opportunities from each client. * Develop cross-selling opportunities with other I&F businesses. * Assist BVNA to enhance the market perception and visibility of Bureau Veritas through involvement and communication at an appropriate level in industry or BV-sponsored tradeshows, conferences, with key involvement in presentations, events, etc. * Coordinate with I&F NA Corporate Marketing and provide support to other BV affiliates by representing BVNA as an integral team member. * Network in the E&P business development community. * Sell directly to, and proactively establish MSA’s with potential national account prospects that fall within Bureau Veritas’ strategic plan. * Coordinate a with and/or provide assistance to business development activities of Regional VP’s, Director of National Accounts, and the Technical Directors charged with selling as part of their job responsibilities. * Develop or support development of proposals or submittals, particularly those that propose a multi-service line offering. * Serve as a conduit for BV Network opportunities. * Document sales activities in CRM, both completed and planned, to capture relationship histories and to drive the sales process forward while tracking KPI’s. * Generate monthly reports of business development activities for review by management. * Monitor Sales KPI’s for BVNA and divisions for Calls, Visits and Opportunity Generation. * Other duties assigned. 2. * Bachelors Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Engineering or Geosciences. * 10+ years experience in a higher level management role preferably in the Power and/or Utilities sector.
